Kate Gosselin: 12 'Oh, No!' Moments

The Holly Jolly Hissy Fit May 7, 2007

TLC

Just six episodes into the first season of Jon & Kate Plus 8, viewers caught a glimpse of Kate's crabbier side when the children set about picking Christmas gifts for one another at Toys ''R'' Us in the ''Shopping for Ten'' episode. When Kate wheeled her cart of cranky kids to the checkout, she impatiently bellowed, ''Helloooo!'' at Jon. Mortified, he told her in the parking lot, ''You yelled at me in there like I'm a frickin' dog'' and added, ''I know you're a better person than that.''

We All Scream for Ice Cream Dec. 10, 2007

In the ''Hit the Road'' episode, Jon drove the family 19 hours — towing a U-Haul full of luggage — to visit Disney World. Inside the Magic Kingdom, ice cream melted on the kids' clothes and Kate melted down (''This is very bad!''). Jon, of course, dissented: ''You know what I would have done? Let 'em eat it. Let 'em bathe in it! Who cares?''

Kate Has a Cow About Coloring in Cute Clothes March 10, 2008

The children visited the Crayola Factory in ''Color Me Gosselin'' to see crayons get made. During a hands-on part of the tour, Kate tried to prevent stains (Jon observed, ''Kate, you're being neurotic — they can't have fun?'') and then forbade anyone to play with markers. Jon sided with the children, saying, ''You shouldn't have dressed them in nice outfits.''

The Infamous Chewing Gum Debacle April 14, 2008

Mady (spending time with her parents in the ''Mady's Day'' episode) got her ears pierced, while Aunt Jodi babysat the other Gosselins — and allowed them gum after they told her it's not against the rules. Kate shouted, ''No way!'' when she spotted gum on Joel's sock later, and vigorously scrubbed Collin's teddy bear while venting, ''I love Jodi, but what would possess her to give six 3-year-olds gum?''

No Dancing Queen Here April 5, 2010

It was bad enough that one particularly awful Dancing With the Stars rehearsal caused Gosselin's professional dancing partner Tony Dovolani to say that ''nothing in dancing is natural to Kate.'' But shortly after that, Gosselin performed a barely passable paso doble to Lady Gaga's ''Paparazzi'' that garnered this as her highest praise: Judge Bruno Tonioli said he admired the way Gosselin came across as a ''super-bitch from hell.'' She made it all the way to week 5 before being eliminated.

Gotta Make a Living April 14, 2010

As part of her media blitz, Gosselin hawked her new book on the Today show and ended up defending her decision to proceed with another reality show, which would focus solely on her. Twist of Kate never actually got off the ground.

Scaring the Duckies with the Chickens July 12, 2010

TLC

In the second new Kate Plus 8 special, what started as a nice family project turned into a punitive exercise. Showing the kids the area of the coop that will be ''filled with chicken poop to be scooped,'' she announced to her brood, ''Whoever disobeys will be assigned with this chore!'' Kate squawked like a chicken when one of the hens ''clawed me with its dirty little toenail.'' She got testy serving lunch to her brood: ''Am I grumpy?'' she asked...who, the camera crew, as though they couldn't tell by now? ''Yes. You would be too if you had to run 26 acres alone,'' she said.

The Joke's on Who? Aug. 29, 2010

Gosselin played a small part in the stellar Jimmy Fallon opening to the Emmys, during which Fallon and crew wouldn't let her join their glee club. Somehow, even her willingness to show that she could take a ribbing about her lack of talent just came across as a little sad and desperate.

Sniffing at the Big Apple Aug. 30, 2010

A trip to see the sights of Manhattan didn't seem to make the elder Gosselin fall in love with the city as she complained about the heat and the smell through most of it.

Whining in Alaska Dec. 12, 2010

Gilles Mingasson/TLC

It must have seemed like a good idea to the folks at TLC at the time: Put its two biggest stars, Palin and Gosselin, in one episode of Sarah Palin's Alaska for a good old campout. But the hour turned into a catastrophe because, as Palin's father said later of Kate, ''she bitched from the moment she got off the plane.'' When Palin and her daughters helped all the little Gosselins make s'mores over the campfire, Kate didn't join in. Instead, seeing some gooey marshmallow land on a few sleeves, she went into a temper-tantrum fury and pulled the plug on the whole adventure. ''I held it together as long as I could, and I'm done now.'' And when the kids said they actually wanted to stay, Kate told them, ''Okay, goodbye. You're now a Palin, not a Gosselin.''

The Dating Game Aug. 8, 2011

Peter Kramer/NBC

A week before it was announced that Kate Plus 8 was canceled, Gosselin told the folks at the Today show that she was ''definitely ready to start dating,'' fueling speculation she was angling for a spot on The Bachelorette. That wasn't the first suggestion Bachelor creator Mike Fleiss had for her. But whatever it is, we're sure she'll land on her feet...and on a screen.
