Not all the action takes place on stage at Comic-Con. A little drama occurred backstage at Friday night’s panel with the cast of The Amazing Spider-Man. San Diego police confirm Rhys Ifans, the actor who’ll play Dr. Curt Connors (otherwise known as The Lizard) in the reboot, was issued a misdemeanor citation of one count of battery for allegedly shoving a female security guard after a member of his entourage was denied entrance into Hall H without the proper credentials. (The Wrap first reported the incident.) In a statement to EW, a rep for Sony, the studio behind the film, says, “Rhys Ifans was detained by Comic-Con security after a brief incident backstage prior to and immediately following the Amazing Spider-Man panel. Police were notified and a citation was issued to Mr. Ifans, who deeply regrets this incident.” A rep for Comic-Con told EW it’s a long-standing convention policy not to comment on matters of security.
Ifans visited EW’s VIP Comic-Con lounge in San Diego earlier in the day Friday with his castmates Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone and director Marc Webb. Watch a clip from the video interview below. (Reporting by Adam B. Vary)
