Usher asked Justin Bieber to perform at 2024 Super Bowl

Usher is confirming rumors that he asked Justin Bieber to perform with him at Super Bowl LVIII in Las Vegas last weekend, explaining that things just didn't work out and there are no hard feelings. In fact, another collaboration between the two might be on the horizon.

In a preview clip from an upcoming interview on The Breakfast Club, Usher said of Bieber's declining the invitation, "I think that it might've been the fact that he's just wanting to tell a different story right now, and I understand that. But we did have a brief conversation, and we're gonna do something else in the future. No love lost or anything like that."

Usher added that he reached out to several other artists about the halftime show. "Justin wasn't the only person that I actually spoke to about doing the Super Bowl, but the moment was maybe for later," he said. "He's gonna play the Super Bowl. I'll go ahead and give you that in the future. I profess that over his life. Because he has a career that deserves it."

The onstage reunion "just didn't happen," Usher said, "but that doesn't mean it's not going to." He also squashed rumors that he asked Chris Brown to perform with him.

Usher's remarks came two days after Lil Jon — who did join the star-studded halftime showtold TMZ that Bieber "just wasn't really ready" to take on all that the Super Bowl entails. "That's a lot of rehearsal, a lot of responsibility, a lot of time and a lot of eyeballs. I don't know if he was ready to do all of that, you know?"

Bieber and Usher go way back, with the R&B vet serving as a mentor of sorts to Bieber at the beginning of his career, and collaborating with him on songs like "Somebody to Love." While Bieber didn't perform in Vegas, he and wife Hailey were in attendance at the game between the San Francisco 49ers and Kansas City Chiefs at Allegiant Stadium.

The couple were captured dancing along to Usher's halftime show, which spanned his greatest hits and also featured Alicia Keys, H.E.R., and Ludacris. Bieber then posted an Instagram tribute to Usher on Monday, writing, "LOVE YOU MY BROTHER. NOONE CAN SING AND DANCE THE WAY YOU DO."
